About Twelve PR
Full service, award winning public relations consultancy. Small but perfectly formed! Specialising in education, employment and environment sectors.
Working with the University of Warwick
We only recruit graduates from top universities with good A levels, including English, so to discover the Warwick Graduate Internship scheme was perfect for us. We offer summer or long vacation work placements, and the National Council for Work Experience was a client of ours we know better than most the importance of a good placement and how to make it work all round. Many of our students on work experience have stayed on as employees or found work in other agencies. We're very proud of our track record in forging careers in PR!
Summer is our busiest time so it helps us cope with seasonal work loads, and also holiday times when staff are away. We do have to work hard in planning what they're going to do and who is going to look after them but it is always worth it.
A good phone manner is essential to us so I would recommend a phone interview before doing personal interviews to save time all round.
Working with students/graduates
We’ve been very happy working with Warwick students. Future grads – do your homework on us and our clients before you talk to us!
It actually takes quite a lot of effort to have someone in on a placement, so its nice if you put some effort in before hand too.
Future engagement
Top tips for other employers
- Be specific about the preparation the student can do to help themselves, and you, before they come eg. background on you, your clients, a target market etc.
- Expect to have to give quite a bit of time to make it work
- Be firm and honest with feedback, and if something isn't done right don't be shy on explaining why; students are really hungry to know how to help and be a good employee, and how to improve and learn
- Provide a mentor, in addition to front line manager they can turn to for help and tips
