Jonathan Browning, chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP), said:
“It is fantastic news Coventry has been shortlisted and now it is important the region continues to pull together to help the city land the City of Culture title.
“We’ve seen a huge uplift in cultural activities and engagement across Coventry and Warwickshire during the bidding process and it is also extremely encouraging how the business community has been galvanised and got behind the bid.
“If Coventry was to become the UK’s City of Culture it would play a major part in helping to raise the profile of the region and bring new investment to the whole of our area. We look forward to continuing to support our partners to try and clear the next hurdle and win this for Coventry and everyone in the wider area.”
