Friargate Coventry

This project was funded by the Regional Growth Fund to provide infrastructure needed for private investors to commit to key employment sites in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Category: Unlocking Growth Potential
Funding: Regional Growth Fund: £12.7m, European Funding: £9.1m

A 100m wide bridge deck over Coventry ring road to provide a level public boulevard to the station, which was previously cut off from the rest of the city centre. This has triggered a full scale regeneration of the station itself, and opened up development space for 1,000,000 square feet of new commercial office buildings including the City Council’s new headquarters. £12.7m in RGF funding was matched against a further £9.1m in European funding.

Friargate:

  • Constructions work complete on Friargate Bridge, open to the public since May 2015
  • Public route to the station completed by private developers in January 2016
  • Council Headquarters now under construction
  • Heads of Terms signed with first occupiers of first commercial building
  • Station regeneration masterplan underway
