Jonathan Browning, chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said the decision was a massive boost to the area’s tourism and culture sector.

“This is a fantastic achievement by everyone involved in Coventry’s bid to be UK City of Culture 2021 and will be a major boost to the economy throughout Coventry and Warwickshire.

“Tourism and culture employs over 40,000 people across the area and this will be increased as we hold events to raise the area’s profile on a national and international level.

“The CWLEP has been key supporters of the bid team and it is another example of fantastic partnership working to the benefit of the region on many levels.”
