North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College has donated over 100 pre-packed sandwiches to the Leicester South Food Bank at the King’s Centre after its partial closure left the refectory at its Wigston Campus with surplus supplies of fresh food.
The King’s Centre, in Bull Head Street in Wigston, is owned by Meadows Community Church and provides a wide range of activities primarily focusing on childcare, community care, youth, and counselling services as well as offering rooms for hire. In addition to the Meadows Community Church, the Centre is also home to several community support organisations including the Leicester South Food Bank.
NWSLC remains partially open at its Wigston Campus to support the children of keyworkers, those with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), students in local authority care, and other students that are known to be vulnerable.
Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of NWSLC said, “We understand that food banks are under a great deal of pressure just now during these uncertain times. We were pleased to have been able to make a contribution to the supply of fresh food through this donation. The college is making every effort to support our local communities and help to keep the UK moving during this time of national crisis.”
