This motorway junction serves two crucially important automotive facilities – Aston Martin’s headquarters and JLR’s engineering facilities, both near the village of Gaydon. At peak times the junction is dangerously congested, with slip roads regularly backing up onto the motorway itself. The Highways Agency is currently redesigning the junction to tackle this problem, but it has also been necessary to upgrade the local road connecting the junction to the two facilities into a dual carriageway. A £3.3m contribution to these works has been awarded to Warwickshire County Council from the Regional Growth Fund. Once both projects are complete, the two auto manufacturers will be able to make the most of expansion land available at their sites.
In response to the ongoing improvements, Stratford District Council has added an additional 80Ha of employment land to the local plan.
